Good players can also use them because when they are wearing them you don't know "when" they are looking at you, picking up tells.

Exactly! That is the main reason to wear them...not to hide your eyes so much.

Just answering some old posts as I have not been around much. I like to bring sunglasses to live play and keep them off for a period of time and then put them on at random for several hands at a time. It is funny to hear the comments from other players when they notice and when they are noticing you know its a distraction for them.

I have never worn glasses or an ipod or anything else that could possibly provide even the slightest distraction. when I sit down at a live game I am there to have fun and what could be more fun than winning? Since this wonderfull game of skill is all about making correct decisions based on limited information I could never understand why anybody would intentionally limit the information they can get by using these items. I often pick up subtle changes in a persons breathing or mannerisms that would be impossible to detect while using sunglasses unless I were in extremely bright light.

Personally I do wear sunglasses. I find they are not a distraction, in fact, quite the opposite. They hide your eyes, which in EVERY person are a tell(no matter what you may think), which allows you to roam your eyes and get more information on your opponents without giving away when and who you are watching. I also find that in most cases in live games the lighting tends to be quite bright allowing you to see everything quite clearly. Just my opinion.
