Default "checking it down"

when is the right time to check down a pot? many times im playing im a tourney and u got someone going all in i usually assume that the players that remain should check it down...however some people want to bet into the pot for whatever reason...should it be done everytime someone goes allin...or just in certain situations?

For me i think the pot should almost always be checked down if there is an all in person just to be sure that the person leaves the table. I HATE when a player bets into the pot with nothing while there is an allin!

The only time someone should bet into the pot with an all in is if they have the nuts and can get chips from others.

Well, if you have the nuts, I wouldn't just keep checking. I would value bet a little. I wouldn't just bet to push someone out of the pot though.

I agree with steller, If you have the nuts, try to get a little more out of the other people. With betting the nuts there is no chance of saving the all in player by forcing the hand that would have beat the all in player to fold. The only other exception imo is if the all in player started the hand with less than 2 blinds and it is not a bubble situation.

If there is no side pot it should definitely be checked down all the time unless of course, you have the nuts!

checking down? mmmm. True there is a chance of that person trippeling up or more and checking only leads to credence that you are willing to conceed that pot. but you can make more money on the side pot and crippeling the other opponent that is willing to play. I say if you have the third party whooped. Raise crazy.

only bet an empty side pot with the nuts remember in a tourny your trying to eliminate players, noe if their is a significant side pot already started it might be worth betting into that pot even if you could potentally loss the main pot

I wish that everyone knew this... I can't tell you how many times I lay down the best hand in a tournament because some bluffer mcblufferson decides to bet me off a pot.

Only in the case of one having the nuts or the side pot is larger than the main pot should one bet at the pot. Even if side pot is larger, I would hope one bets with a chance of knocking the all-in out.
