My thinking in this hand was that I wasn't sure if my set was good when he raised me with AQT showing. I thought it was possible he had made a straight, so I was going to wait to fill up, before getting aggressive,
but was also planning on paying him off if I didn't. I figured the check call on 6th would save me a bet if I didn't improve, and might also draw a bet out from him on 7th. When I filled up, I had decided I was going to c/r, since I played 6th so weakly.

I checked, he checked behind with two pair. Bah.

Yeah, but if you're going to wait to fill up, you gotta actually bet when you fill up. My strategy for most(all) stud games is to not slow play hands.

I've been hearing a lot about Razz lately. Got some advice for a newbie? Starting hands? When to chase vs. when not to? Anything? Thanks.
3 main rules for razz:
1. Don't slow play
2. Don't slow play
3. Don't slow play

If you have the best hand, bet it. Also, play YOUR cards alot less. If you have a hand like (KQ)A, and the lowest card showing otherwise is a 7, complete it. Then, if you still have the best hand showing on 4th, and your opponent catches a card like a 9 or T, bet again.

Don't chase as much. However, if it's 5th street, and you have a hand like (37)A49, peel 6th. At this point, you're the favorite to make the best hand. Also, there is another big rule you'll want to commit to memory. That's the "2 brick-fold" rule. Basically, if you're in a hand, and you get two "bricks" (any card that pairs you or is between 9-K, and on later streets 8-K), fold. At this point, you'd need runners to make your hand, which is unlikely.
looks like I won't be looking to pick up the game at all anytime soon at least

It wasn't really slowplaying. It was more playing conservatively. I took the lead until I met with resistance. I wasn't sure where I was at, but deicded that since he had played 5th and 6th streets so aggressively, I could get a c/r in on the river. Unfortunately, he checked behind.

Yeah, slowplaying in razz will kill you. You NEVER want to give your opponent an opportunity to beat you.

Check page 2 of this for my razz advice.

Summary:
1. Don't slow play
2. Play your cards about 35-40% of the time and your oponents 60-65%
3. Fold if you brick twice (Brick= 9 or higher/8 or higher in some(most) cases)
