Thanks!! I will definitely check them out.

Also I would like to take this time to thank all of you that have posted Razz tips in this link especially GK. I recently deposited at FTP and was down from playing NLH. I decided to give the Razz cash games a shot and have made up my losses from NLH and then some. I think I am going to stick with Razz on FTP for a while.

Default Badugi

I'm just posting so everyone understands the rules. I tried asking at the table and everyone just laughed at me... calling me a donk for entering.

Basically, A low, King high.

Best hand is A, 2, 3, 4 four-suited.
Second best is A, 2, 3, 5 four-suited.
Worst hand is four kings (counts as a one-card hand of K).
Fifth worst hand is four tens or T, J, Q, K single suited (both count as one-card hand of 10).

Each value and suit can only be used once in your hand.

Default bluffing in razz?

Newcome here. Got a question about bluffing in razz. I've heard many people say it's a game of nuts, and yet I've found that perception is often more important than your own cards or even card reading. For example, even if I'm holding KQ in the pocket, if I'm showing A23 and my opponent is showing 68J, it's pretty easy to take it away from him. But I'm wondering about certain other situations.

Let's say, for instance, you start with a decent hand like 62 in the pocket and A on 3rd street. You raise to thin the field, leaving you with one other caller showing a 5. 4th street brings you a deuce, your opponent a 7. You bet, he calls. 5th street brings you a 6, your opponent an 8. What do you do at this point? You've accumulated 2 bricks already and your opponent is showing a marginal hand, but your up cards look a lot more powerful than his. If you bet and he calls, what do you do on 6th street if:
A. You both show strong cards (ex: you a 4, him a 2)
B. You both show weak cards (you a J, him a T)
C. You show an A, he shows a weak card (like a Q)

Also, if you are the bring in, would you ever call a raise if you're holding A2 in the pocket? If so, under what conditions?

A. You just call out the hand. If he starts raising. fold.
B. You keep raising and keep the pressure on him. Your up cards still look unbeatable
C. Ditto, keep the pressure on.

So in B & C, you are bluffing, in fact. But, after 7th street, you can fold if he endures all your raises. But he may be bluffing too.

Razz is probably my favorite game, although I am still learning. But whoever said that it is a game of perception is right. I play the FTP HORSE Freeroll and love this freeroll because if you hang in there, you can outlast the players who are just learning unless they get lucky. Never be afraid to ask about a game if you don't know, though, because they all had to learn at some point and what better place than a freeroll.

I like Colorado's answer to question about the hypothetical. Basically, if you look strong, bet, but if the other player calls/raises, watch out. Especially, if your paired. Better to die another day.

As to the question if you'd ever call as the bring-in bettor with A-2 in the hole....

Here is a general guideline "don't defend your bring-in bet when your exposed card is two levels higher than your opponent." If your exposed card is a one level higher, you are almost 3-1 to catch up on 4th street. If your exposed card is 4 levels higher (like 9 versus 5), you are 10-1 to catch up.

I've done a lot of work on checking Razz probabilities and it's one of the reasons I wrote "Play Razz Poker to Win." Another thing to consider when defending as the bring-in bettor is if your opponent consistently raises as the last player with a low card exposed. If so, and he is the first in, and next to you, you may want to be more liberal with your calls as the bring-in better.

But, overall, I think players make the mistake of defending their bring-in bets too often. It's sort of like the small blind calling in limit poker regardless of the cards.
