Yes, HoldEm, always age your parole officer in the trunk for, say, 10 days before eating him.

Default Shifting Gears in MTT

Hi, I posted this question earlier in a different thread but thought I would ask again since I have gotten no response. How do I shift gears in the later stages of tourneys to accumulate enough chips to make the final table?
I seem to OK in early and, mid stages of tourneys. In early stages I generally only play top 10 hands. In the mid stages I loosen up a bit playing small pairs, suited connectors or, any two cards 9 or, higher. But, in the later stages of tourneys I tend to tighten up too much or, play too loose. A good example might be the last tourney I played. Was 19th of 40 players left. 120already eliminated 20 to go till money. Had pocket sevens in mid position. Just under 7000 chips I raised to 4x big blind which was 1500 chips. All but player next to button folded with about 7,500 chips reraised enough to put me all in. I thought about folding because I figured I might already be beat but, had a gut feeling that I had best hand pre-flop and, thought it might be a good time to gamble. I could have folded. I honestly thought about it but, with the blinds escalating that would have severly limited my options in following hands. I called and, was right I did have best hand pre-flop but, he turned over AK and, naturally the K hit on the turn. Not really a bad beat certainly not the worst one I've ever seen. I'm not quite sure what I did wrong here. Should I have just called pre-flop and folded to the big bet or, if I should have pushed all in and, prayed he might have folded the AK. Any help is appreciated.

I had decisions like that especially online with limited time to think. If i was first or second or even third to act at a full table i think i fold 7s from the start but i think all in before the flop would be a good move although i dont think anyone online is folding AK to an all in that late in the tourn. Even though the blinds are getting big i'd rather wait for a chance where i was a big favorite rather than a small favorite. You lose some your chips but u avoid a close gamble and if the cards come u will win those back x3 and more when u double up. I say this now, but in your spot i would have prob been all in also and then wished i folded to avoided putting my chips at risk before the flop. I think a call and fold to the bet is prob the better move. Goodluck next time!

as in my post in your original thread buzz, i disagree with durden. you play like scared money and you never make final tables but you will cash often.

I think we need to play very aggressive everthing is about the blind and the structure but i go rapidly all in, for double-up.
