I'm usually a very aggressive player but do not play every hand. I play in free pub tourneys so i know all the players and we get to play 3 or 4 nights per week. This one night I played really tight and everyone soon knew that i was only playing premium hands. The downside of this is you can be bluffed off the hand if you have not hit after the flop. I was just mixing my game up. I had played only 3 hands in an hour, but pulled out after the flop missed. Along came PKT ACES and I was on the button. I was watching every player limp in and then the CO looked at one card and showed his friend this one card and said That's all I needed to see and raised $500. Normally I would never slow play aces and would have gone all in, but his comment threw me... I truly believed he had just seen an ace and bet on that single card. Later i found out it was a Queen of all things. He had Q,8 (off). I let him lead out $500, then another $500 and finally all-in. I was not even taking much notice of a straight forming, which he made with his stupid 8 on the river. My pkt aces were cracked through bad play. I allowed a comment made by a player to convince me he had an ace. I was hoping an ace would show, because I knew I could take his money with trips.....lol All that patient waiting went down the drain. Next game I'll be back to loose aggressive for sure, and my over rated pkt aces will be all-in or FOLDED ....lol |

As it has been said learn to play aces and they will pay you off...everyone can recall their HUGE losses with Pocket Aces....it just means you didn't get away from it when they should have... I think the inverse is true for 7-2 or any other rags...everyone can remember winning a pot with rags from the BB (or just playing them for the hell of it). Or being beaten with them (maybe while holding AAs lol). Everyone hears "Best" or "Worse" starting hand and thinks that if they're dealt to them its easy sailing from there on out...lulled into a false sense of security by the most statistically sound starting hand. The trick is playing your opponents not YOUR cards...too big a for their cards and you buy the blinds, to small and we have people who shouldn't be let into the hand seeing cards for cheap. Read your opponents and make decisions based on their hand strength.

Losses with AA tend to be memorable because you don't expect to lose with them. In reality, if you track your win rate with them, you'll find they do win a substantial majority of the time. It just doesn't seem that way because of the memorability factor of the times someone sucks out on you.

You must play ace ace aggressively in no limit. It is a much better hand when your "M" is low. With ace ace, you should take the lead in teh betting. 3x the bb preflop. Pot sized bet post flop. Depending on your stack size you are probably pot committed. Ace King is a drawing hand and is easy to get away from if you miss the flop.

The thing about AA, KK, AK or any other starting hand is that it is just that, a starting hand. Some people seem to forget that. They way I play any of these depends on who I'm playing, what the board brings, and the image I have at the table.

here's on memorable loss with a seto of aces: I'm playing high stakes play chips, there's a donk on the table that likes to move all-in a lot and raise with trash, I get AA and limp in expecting an all-in or a raise from him, he raises with 3-5 suited, the flop comes with an A and some lower cards, here raises on a draw, I call. on the turn I see a straight draw starting to form so I push all-in on top of his raise, as expected the idiot calls me with just the straight draw and wins. that's usually how I like to play AA - raise with them and then move all-in on flop or turn. you have to always think what people could call you with and watch out for a straight or a flush, or a flop that comes something like K-Q-2 or K-J-3 which could very well gives someone 2 pairs. |
